About Us

Meet The Teacher

Born august 05 1980 in Ipatinga Brazil, Mestre Jabá is one of teachers of the Capoeira Malês school. He developed interest in Capoeira at young age but only at age of 16 when he officially begin his journey in the studying this art form. Thru capoeira he believes that in order to achieve any goal the individual has to be willing to pay the price, like coal in order to become a diamond it has to outstand a great amount of heat and pressure, a capoeirista must be determined, resilient, focused, disciplined, committed to learn from mistakes and adversity.

Our Philosophy

Capoeira Malês was founded by Mestre Curisco and Mestre Lua Branca after emigrating from Brazil to the United States and Canada respectively. Mestre Curiso and Mestre Lua Branca committed to the preservation and values of capoeira as an art, but also to disseminating the Brazilian culture worldwide and passing on these values to their students. Our members often volunteer their time to teaching classes, performing, organizing community events, and maintaining the studio. Working together, we stay true to the spirit of Capoeira – community-building, comradery, and great axé or energy. We are committed to making arts accessible to the community by offering workshops and providing a supportive community alternative to youth, teens, and adults alike at an affordable or free cost. As members of the Seattle community, we believe in opening our studio’s doors to all genders, ages and socio-economic backgrounds by providing classes, community outreach and access, and youth development. Capoeira Malês is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All proceeds from classes support the upkeep of our studio space and the continuation of our mission.
